About the School

King George Royal Indian Military College, Bangalore was established on 1 August 1946 to facilitate education of the sons of defence personnel from South India. Cadets were educated, then from III to VI form to enable them to appear for the Army's Special Examination, which was equivalent to high school education. The three Houses, at those times were Coot, Clive and Cornwallis. The School was reorganised in September 1952 and was thrown open to sons of commissioned officers and civilians. The name of the school was shortened to King George's School. The school motto was 'Play the Game'. A member of lPSC (Indian Public School Conference) the school prepared cadets for 'Senior Cambridge Examination' from 1952 to 1963. The nascent patriotic fervour found its local expression when the houses were renamed as Rajaji, Nehru and Mountbatten. The Mountbatten House was changed to Tagore House and a new House by name Shastri House was created. In 1966, The School's name was altered to 'Bangalore Military School' and after four years of its affiliation to ICSE, the school adpoted a CBSE syllabus in 1967. In 1969, The school's motto was changed to "Sheelam Param Bhushanm ", a Sanskrit Shloka which means "Character is the highest virtue'. Thereafter, the school celebrated its Diamond Jubilee from 08th Dec to 10th Dec 2006. In July 2007 the school was redesignated as "Rashtriya Military School" Bangalore. The school proudly celebrated it's Platinum Jublee in the year of 2021. The year long celebration culminated with the gracious presence of the then Honorable President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind , Governor of Karnataka Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot and the Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri Basavaraj Bommai on 13th of June 2022.

I consider it a privilege to have taken over the reins of this prestigious institution, set up with a noble cause, a proud claimant to a rich legacy, steeped in age-old values and time-tested tradition. I am elated as I see the vast strides this prestigious institution has taken to keep itself abreast of the times, under the able command of my worthy predecessors.

The School has expanded but not aged; it is still a vibrant institution that tirelessly strives for competence, professionalism and all-round excellence. It continues to provide a perfectly conductive atmosphere for every cadet to bloom into an exquisitely carved personality who contributes meaningfully in the nation's security, growth and progress.

The School motto,"Character is the Highest Virtue",provides the necessary impetus to the cadets to imbibe values such as courage, patriotism, duty and truthfulness in thoughts, words and deeds, leading to self-discipline, high self-esteem and honourable conduct.

In my opening address at the School assembly, I mentioned the 03 As-Aim, Ambition and Attitude that determine one's success and urged upon the cadets to keep the 03 As high. No opportunity is lost to emphasise this through words or deeds.

My vision for the School cannot be different from the vision of the founding fathers: 'Academic Excellence coupled with Military Values'.

I earnestly hope this vision serves as a beacon light as we tread courageously on the road to all-round excellence.
